Sound

Music

We used the song ‘Cleaver Lever’ by ‘The Growl’ in our film. The Growl is an independent, small band from Australia that has recently become quite popular on the internet due to this song being used in the hit TV show from Netflix ‘Orange is The New Black.’ In order to use the song, I needed to get in touch with the band. Fortunately, I messaged the singer of the band, Cameron Avery, on Facebook and after some time he luckily managed to reply. Below is our full conversation:

We decided to use this song because it really sets the tone of the scene. The song is in major key and is fast-paced which highlights the substantial power the gangsters possess in the scene where they walk out of the club. Additionally, the song is in major key which helps to persuade the audience to support these characters and as they are the ones receiving the acting credits then it shows that they are the protagonists of the film. Dialogue

Within our script we used quite intimidating lines such as ‘You! Where’s the manager’ which again shows the huge amounts of power of the gangsters. The majority of the dialogue is dominated by our main planned protagonist, Joey Bruce. This is to illustrate to the audience which character is their main protagonist and who they are supposed to be following. In terms of editing, we also used a voice over from the protagonist to further highlight that he is the main protagonist but to also add interest for the audience in the scene. It contained lines such as ‘Some people call it evil smashing up someone’s club; I call it business.’ This is slightly humorous but it also shows how tough our main character is in the film. Most of our dialogue highlights the traits of our characters so that is why we worked specifically on each individual line to make sure each one had meaning and strength behind it.
