What effects or transitions are used? Why?

A transition is used at it switches from the shot of the city to a shot of Ryan Gosling; it fades. Also, most of the credits fade in and out.

Camerawork

  • The camera pans left on a city, setting the scene and showing it is set in USA.
  • It then fades into a low angle shot of Ryan Gosling showing he’s powerful.
  • An over the shoulder shot is then used as he starts to drive.
  • A point of view shot is then shown, putting the audience in his shoes.
  • A mid shot is used of Ryan gosling showing who he is.
  • A high angle shot is used showing the city and the amount of cars on the road, this is also a long shot.

Mise-en-scene

  • Costumes- Gosling wears a leather jacket and the women he walks past in the opening wears her work clothing, being a red jumper and white shirt (working at the cinema). He also wears leather gloves.
  • Props- He keeps a toothpick in his mouth, uses a phone and a bag is also used as another prop.
  • Lighting- The lighting is constantly dark and Ryan Gosling’s face is dark, indicating that he doesn’t want to be identified.
  • Location- The location is done in a studio but the setting of the film is in the USA.

Soundtrack

  • Diegetic- Dialogue- “I’ll give you a 5 minute window.” There is the sound of him shutting the door, flicking the light, car wheels screeching and the sound of wind as other cars pass by.
  • Non-diegetic- The music is composed with drums and an electric guitar, it is a song.

Editing

  • Editing is used to make the background blurry when Gosling is driving the car.
